Police statistics indicate that there are 102,386 policeofficers in the Republic of Korea, that each police officeris responsible for 498 people, and that the police received11,771,589 calls on their emergency number (112) for lifesafety in 20121), highlighting the increasing importance ofthe presence and role of the police. Under these circumstances, occupational disease-related accidents are reportedin news media every day, and preventive health screeningis actively encouraged. Nevertheless, there has been insufficient research on the diseases of police officers despitestudies of the factors, such as cerebrovascular disease2).Most of the studied diseases have been job-related stressand posttraumatic stress3–5).
