Langenbach(1988) reviewed several diverse models of curriculum development in adult education. He concluded that the "curricular commonplaces of goals, content, method, and evaluation are present in all of the models, but they do not receive similar treatment in each" (p 209). These common elements identified by Langenbach provide the basis for the approach to instructional design used in this book. This model for instructional design is flexible and easy to use in the preparation of learning activities for adult learners. It may not be equally applicable to all adult education settings and purposes, but it provides guidelines for adult educators charged with developing effective learning activities and can be adapted to a great many settings.
