These experiments were approved by the Animal
Care Committee of the University of Saskatchewan and
were performed in accordance with the guidelines of the
Canadian Council on Animal Care (2005). Experiment
1 was performed to determine the apparent ileal digestibility
(AID) and standardized ileal digestibility (SID)
of the wheat distillers dried grains with solubles (WDDGS)
and ruminant meat and bone meal (MBM) used
in the low-protein-digestibility diets. These ingredients
have a high variability in nutrient content and digestibility
compared with the soybean meal and fishmeal
used in the high-digestibility diets, so their digestibility
values were measured to improve the accuracy of diet
formulation.
