By March 2001 the OECD was able to attest to the “impressive progress” that Italy had made in just a few years in the quality of regulation, bureaucratic simplification and administrative modernization, listing achievements which, truth be told, appear to have been ignored by public opinion and the Italian politicians (while, most unusually, the Italian reform was appreciated abroad, particularly in France.)
