3.3. Size distribution
The average mass distributions of the recovered metallic aluminum in the different size ranges are presented in Figs. 6 and 7. The standard deviation in the replicated tests lies between 1.3% and 7.4% in Fig. 6, between 0.8% and 6.5% in Fig. 7a and between 3.1% and 8.5% in Fig. 7b. Fig. 6 compares the average size distribution for three packaging types with only crumbled shapes. It can be observed that the incinerated crumbled cans tended to end up into the +6 mm range (70wt.%) together with the foil containers (45 wt.%), while the incinerated thin foils ended up mainly in the range 2 mm (43 wt.%). Fig. 7 show the partitioning for different input sizes and shapes for the can and the foil container. The results show that different packaging types generate different distributions,
while the input shape (crumbled or not) only had some
influence on the partitioning of the foil container. These results show that the size partitioning in bottom ash depends mainly on the type of packaging.
