An organizations culture develops, with or without a conscious effort on the part of its leaders. Changing unwanted aspects of a culture such as top-down decision making or limited communication is difficult, and imbedding new cultural attributes such as participative decision making and open communication takes time and persistence. Leaders of organizations who fail to intentionally develop and continually reinforce the desired culture, run the risk of a resulting cultural environment that undermines the day-to-day performance and financial success of the organization.
