Referring to jojoba oil, avocado oil and
paraffin oil (Figs 1c–e), in all volunteers fluorescence
was detectable only on the skin surface
and in the lipid layers around the first cell
layers of the corneocytes. Consequently, the
investigations clearly show that the applied oils
form an efficient protective film on the skin surface.
A penetration into deeper layers of the
stratum corneum, let alone through the skin
barrier, could not be detected. These results are
in concordance with the observations in previous
studies. Stamatas et al.
