Among
the flavonoids, the presence of catechin was maximum followed
by quercetin and then rutin (Table 5). Many of these compounds
belong to the pathway of phenylpropanoids which is characteristic
of chilli species. It is clear from the results that variations exist in
the concentration of different polyphenols in the accessions which
can explained by the proximity of the geographical region or varied
environmental conditions, or by the genotype of chilli, etc as discussed earlier by Silva et al. (2006).
