Polyester fibers Polyester (aka Terylene) refers to the linkage of several monomers (esters) within the fibers. Polyesters can be classified into two types: • Thermoplastic polyesters, which consist of fiber-forming, filmforming and engineering application polymer such as PET. • Important for textiles and other commercial sectors • Used for the manufacture of plastic bottles, films, and liquid crystal displays (LCD) • Thermoset polyesters, which are basically unsaturated polyester resins (liquid form) that upon curing from highlycrosslinked structures (solid). –Widely used as a matrix for preparation of fiber-reinforced composite materials to bind the fibrous structure together.
