The instrument was equipped with a movable chip holder
for alignment of the polymer microchip, automatic actuation
and optical positioning. The servomotors (Omron Electronics,
Kyoto, Japan) were regulated by a physical signaling sublayer
(PLS) (Saia-Burgess Electronics AG, Murten, Switzerland),
programmed with PG 5 (Saia-Burgess Electronics AG). All
communications were run through a serial line (RS232) and
controlled by MATLAB.
