These seizures occur in children in the same age group affected by FS and may or may not be associated with fever.
Such seizures appear to be unrelated to FS in that only 7% of patients have a family history of FS and only 5% have a history of FS.
The seizures are brief and generalized and last less than 3 minutes in 87% of children.
They occur in clusters over a period that can be as long as 24 hours in 75% of children and recurrent episodes are rare.
Treatment with antiepileptic drugs does not abort the cluster in most children.
