The acidifier used in BVAI or BVAII was able to
inhibit growth of E. coli, Sa. enteritidis and St. aureus
at a concentration of 0.25% (Wang et al., 2011). It
was reported in previous studies that the positive
effects of organic acid on digestibility and growth
performance are primarily a result of successful
inhibition of the proliferation of pathogenic bacteria
(Dibner & Buttin, 2002). Similar performance in
piglets fed a diet including BV and acidifier may
occur primarily as a result of the specific antimicrobial
activity of these two components.
