Sets of images were obtained for bottlenose dolphins, dusky dolphins, spinner dolphins, long-finned pilot whales, sperm whales, and white sharks. The Finscan system was used in the same way for all species, except in the case of sperm
whales, where flukes rather than dorsal fins were used. In this case, the left fluke tip was considered the ‘top’ of the fin, and the right fluke tip was considered the ‘bottom’ of the fin.
