Among the ten stories, the Vessantare Jataka (เวสสันดรชาดก) is the most important and is called the Great Birth (มหาชาติ). The story is divided into 13 parts, or Kan (กัณฑ์) in Thai. The favorite parts are recounted during the Mahachat Festival and are called the Matsi Kan (กัณฑ์มัทรี). They tell story of Matsi, whose two children were given away when she was not home, and the Kuman Kan (กัณฑ์กุมาร) telling the story of the young children who had to face hardship, traveling with a stranger who dragged them away from their parents.
