2.4. Imaging of streptococcal translocation
Confocal microscopy showed the surface conditions of the cells.
Before S. suis infection, the epithelial cells treated with ethanol had
normal surface conditions compared to the cells with no treatment.
After 6 h of S. suis infection, the S. suis attached to the surface of the
cells with no treatment, whereas the cells treated with ethanol
sustained far more damage at 6 h. Among the treated cell, S. suis
moved from the apical to basolateral side, and E-cadherin was
disassembled (Fig. 5).
