The gun (9450) operations are more easily understood if certain subsystem characteristics are recognized: (1)
when an assembled subsystem is cycled, all components rotate in unison, (2) each component must be synchronized or
timed to the individual mating unit, (3) the rounds and empty cases of a full load of ammunition occupy essentially every
station in the AHS and gun, and (4) when empty cases are cycled through an uncleared gun at less than clearing speed, it
will generally cause a jam. Empty cases slightly misaligned in the breech bolt will ram the end of a barrel due to the absence
of guidance otherwise provided by the nose of the projectile.
