The use of an audio computer-assisted self-interviewing system to include Hispanic respondents with poor English language skills in a short health survey was examined. With Audio-CASI, interviewees use headphones to listen to relevant questions translated into Spanish by a native Spanish speaker and enter their answers into a connected laptop computer. Participants were asked about demographic characteristics, aspects of their health, and their use of health services. Most of the respondents said that it was very easy to comprehend the questions asked in the Audio-CASI interview, and practically none of them had any difficulty in using the technology. The results indicate that English-speaking interviewers can effectively use multilingual Audio-CASI to administer a health survey and that the system can be successfully used by interviewees with limited English language skills.
