The interannual variations in the dissolved oxygen and temperature
in the Kuril Basin of the OS could be explained by variations in the
Alaska Gyre flow supplying water to the western subarctic Pacific by
the AS and Eastern Kamchatka Currents (Andreev and Baturina, 2006;
Andreev and Kusakabe, 2001; Andreev and Shevchenko, 2008). The
increase/decrease in water exchange between the subarctic Pacific
and the OS results in a decrease/increase in dissolved oxygen and in a
increase/decrease in temperature, dissolved inorganic carbon and nutrients
in the OS (Andreev, 2009).
