The foundations of this autoethnographic study are to expand upon the definitions of domestic violence while raising awareness of the impacts of inter partner violence, and ultimately to provide a therapeutic quest for meaning as this researcher searches for her personal and professional identity by examining her experiences with domestic violence. Until recently, only a limited amount of literature on domestic violence existed. Many women suffer from feelings of shame and have a fear of further harm if they break their silence; therefore, breaking the pattern of domestic violence is extremely difficult and may take an extended period of time. Victims of domestic abuse can become empowered by learning about the causes and cures for surviving domestic abuse
