The crude sulfated polysaccharide from several algae
were reported to inhibit only Gram positive bacteria, e.g. P.
gymnospora and Dictyota dichotoma extracts, while Hypnea
musciformis extracts showed activity against Salmonella
typhosa Para-A [57]. The antibacterial activity result was
similar to that of Hellio et al [58] who found that S. muticum
extracts inhibited both of Gram positive and Gram negative
bacteria.
