Although his life had been heavily loaded with traveling, although he spent many, many years far from his beloved Norway as an explorer, as minister of Norway to England, as Norwegian delegate to the League of Nations, and as League of Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, he was nevertheless deeply rooted in his country and his people. No "displaced person", no "homeless foreigner", he! A man as great as Nobel and as much of an idealist, but with a completely different approach to life and its problems.
