A gender role is a set of societal norms dictating what types of behaviors are generally considered acceptable, appropriate or desirable for a person based on their actual or perceived sex. These are usually centered around opposing conceptions of femininity and masculinity, although there are myriad exceptions and variations. The specifics regarding these gendered expectations may vary substantially among cultures, while other characteristics may be common throughout a range of cultures. There is ongoing debate as to what extent gender roles and their variations are biologically determined, and to what extent they are socially constructed.
In my opinion, I think gender is assigned social role as a female or a male. Therefore, gender is determined by society may change in the social environment and social change. For example, in the past, in Thailand the gender roles assigned to men working outside the home in order to raise money to support his family while women have to take care of home, children, cooking and everything in her home. However, at present, gender roles are not as strict as before. Male have role to take care home and take care children. On the other hand, Female may have to bear the burden of work that used to be a male. In my opinion, I think one thing that makes no strict gender roles may because gender is more numerous such as bisexual, gays and lesbians. As a result, gender these have many talents because they can work outside well and take care home as well, too.
Conclusion, gender roles is an accepted norm or behavior in society. However, if our society is defined gender roles are strict or not strict. We should follow the role or function of our best.
