Eventually, the day came when the king decided to return home. It was agreed that not only Phra Aphai Mani but also Sin Samutr would go on the ship. They all said goodbye to the hermit. Then Phra Aphai Mani had to break the news to the mermaid. He went down to the beach and called on her. The mermaid knew that her beloved husband was going back home. He the mermaid a ring, telling her to give it to gave their child. Phra Aphai Mani and the mermaid then parted in a tearful farewell. Not long afterwards, Phra Aphai Mani and Sin Samutr sailed away with their new friends. The mermaid was left all alone, except for the hermit who looked after her as he had promised. When the time came, she was delivered of a son, a normal human baby boy, the very image of his father. He was given the name Sud Sakorn Edge of the Ocean.
