Some transgenic lines reverted back to the spiny-leafed trait,
which is the most common variant encountered in ‘Smooth
Cayenne’ (Smith et al., 2002). Three biolistics lines in particular,
146-4, 152-1 and 172-4 showed between 96% to 100% spininess,
while two Agrobacterium-mediated lines, V61(2) and V61(5),
showed 79% to 100% spininess. If these lines were excluded from
the analysis, biolistics transformation showed 4% to 24% spininess
across all remaining lines, while Agrobacterium-mediated transformation
showed 7% to 17% spininess across all remaining lines
