2.5. Sample size
According to CONSORT guidelines (Weller et al., 2010), the sample size estimate was based on projected treatment effect
on the primary outcome measure. The AHA scale responsiveness to change has been shown in a study in which Eliasson,
Krumlinde-Sundholm, Shaw, and Wang (2005) used this scale as the outcome measure in evaluating the effects of a modified
model of CIMT. The authors reported a significant effect size of 1.16. The statistical analysis indicated that, in order to detect a
1.16 effect size at a significant level of .05 and 80% power, a minimum sample size of 24 subjects distributed in two groups
was required.
