Overview
Causes of leukopenia include lymphopenia and neu-tropenia due to HIV infection and antineutrophil anti-bodies. Anemia can be caused from chronic disease, parvovirus B19 infection, vitamin B12 or iron deficiency, blood loss and autoimmune hemolysis, as well as preex-isting or coexisting conditions. Thrombocytopenia istypically associated with both decreases in the produc-tion and increases in the destruction of platelets. Adverse drug reactions, infiltration of the bone marrow from tumor or opportunistic infections, and hypersplenism can manifest in the form of any or all of the cytopenias, and thrombotic thrombocytopenia purpura can con-tribute to both anemia and thrombocytopenia
