Therefore, in spite of the lack of a clear association
between SHyper and cardiovascular mortality,
the data
indicate that all-cause mortality is greater in older individuals
with SHyper.
The numerous reports demonstrating
that SHyper may exert negative influences other than those
on the cardiovascular system may explain this.
For example,
a SHyper-associated reduction in cognitive function
and physical performance has been demonstrated in the
same aging population being considered in this
study.
5,36,37 All these effects of SHyper may lead to greater
frailty and eventually increase the risk of death.
