Welshman Geraint John has been appointed coach of Australia's rugby sevens program, replacing Michael O'Connor and charged with guiding the qualifying campaign for the 2016 Olympics.
The 51-year-old John, who takes up his role next month, has been the successful coach of the Canada sevens team since 2010 and was a skills coach with the Wales national team under New Zealander Graham Henry from 1999 to 2001.
He takes over the job about a month out from the Commonwealth Games at Glasgow and after O'Connor announced in February he was not seeking reappointment.
John said while his immediate target is the Commonwealth Games, he is under "no illusion that one of the key targets of the ARU is for the men's Sevens team to secure a gold medal in Rio.
