Last year’s flood was caused by unusually heavy rains
Feeding into very full dams, the water levels in the dams were
Maintained at high levels last to ensure a good supply of
water for farming. Theoretically, that water was kept to be
released to the farms over time, leaving the dams empty for
the rainy season. However, the rains came earlier and heavier
than expected. Consequently. Large volumes of water from the
dams had to be released quickly, causing floods in many parts
of the country.
