Fire Safety Training Module Overview
Purpose of Fire Safety Training Module
Walmart has developed this training module as a guide to understanding the fire safety
requirements within the Health and Safety section of the Standards for Suppliers. This module
provides training on these requirements, including the Fire Safety Audit Checklist, and is
intended for:
1. Suppliers,
2. Factories, and
3. Approved Third Party Audit Firms.
With the aid of this document you should be able to:
1. Understand the fire safety requirements within the Health and Safety section of
Walmart’s Standards for Suppliers; and
2. Understand the actions you must take to prepare your facility for a fire safety audit.
Walmart’s Fire Safety Requirements Overview
Walmart’s Fire Safety Requirements can be found in the Standards for Suppliers, Section 7:
Health and Safety – Fire Safety Requirements.
The Fire Safety Requirements were developed in partnership with fire safety experts and are
similar to those used by Walmart for its own stores and operations. The Fire Safety
Requirements and this training will help you identify areas where you can better protect your
employees, yourself, your facility, and the general public from fire-related workplace dangers.
The Fire Safety Requirements may be above and beyond local law in the area where
your facility is located. When there is a difference between applicable standards, laws, and
regulations, Walmart's expectation is that the supplier adheres to the most stringent
requirement.
Compliance with this document does not offer or guarantee a safe building / facility. Items
contained in this training were selected as action items that can make a significant impact on
the safety of the building and its occupants and can be reasonably implemented and
evaluated. Facilities remain solely responsible for ensuring fire safety. Facilities found to have
fire safety-related violations will be required to take corrective action.
Walmart’s Fire Safety Requirements apply to all facilities, including but not limited to,
factories, dormitories, and canteens and cover the following 6 categories:
1. Permits and Building Design,
2. Legal Requirements,
3. Emergency Egress,
4. Fire Equipment,
