Grallator is an ichnogenus - in other words,
it is named from trace fossils rather than
from the remains of the creature itself. The
footprints known as Grallator were made
by an unknown dinosaur. However, the size
and the shape of the prints allow scientists
to make certain assumptions, and indicate
that the creature was probably an early
meat-eating or theropod-type of dinosaur.
It would have measured around 3mJIOft in
length and weighed in at some 35-40kgl
77-88Ib, similar to the well-known
Coelophysis, which lived about 20 million
years earlier. The prints of several individual
animals often occur in lines .or trackways,
showing that this was probably a group-
dwelling or herding dinosaur.
