Bede, also known as Saint Bede or the Venerable Bede was probably born in Monkton, Durham. At the age of 7 years old he was entrusted to the care of Benedict Biscop, who is 674 A.D. had founded the monastery of Saint Peter at Monkwearmouth. When he had completed this schooling, in 682 A.D., Bede moved to the twin monastery of Saint Paul in nearby Jarrow, Northeast England, both of which were located in the Kingdom of Northumbria, where he spent the rest of his life. It is probable that he never travelled further afield than Lindisfarne to the north and York to the south during his lifetime.
