anergia, anhedonia and low mood. Poor remission will ultimately
adversely affect one’s ability to continue to get back on track with
respect to academic, vocational, family and social functioning.
The ultimate goal of treatment for TRD should be full remission
of symptoms and full restoration of functioning (Trivedi and Daly,
2008). Moreover, considering the recurrent nature of MDD, an
important challenge for clinicians is to ensure a sustained period
of remission once it has been achieved, maintaining full recovery,
and decreasing risk for relapse through maintenance treatment
(Trivedi and Daly, 2008; Trivedi et al., 2008).
