Antimicrobial Activity
1. Culture Technique.
A 5-mm diameter agar plug containing mycelia and spores of the fungus (inoculum) was aseptically collected from the edge of each actively growing fungal colony for each species.
2. Exposure to Volatiles.
Inoculated plates were exposed to volatiles applied to petri dish lids.
Aliquots of test oil (2, 4, 10, 20, 40 or 100 μl) were placed on a cover slip.
Three replicates per treatment were done, with the controls consisting of water instead of test substances.
The petri dishes were sealed with Parafilm, inverted and incubated at 30°C. The colony diameter of each pathogen was measured after 2 and 7 days and data were expressed as percentage inhibition of mycelial growth
