During Peru’s long history, many civilizations have flourished and subsequently disappeared. Among these are the Chavin, Paracas, Nasca, Moche, Huari, Chimú, and Inca. Many of these cultures had highly complex, stratified societies. They were known for impressive stone architecture, extensive road systems, elaborate religious ceremonies, exquisite weaving, jewelry and ceramics.
This set is a sampling of ceramics from the Andes Region of South America, ranging in date from approximately 100 to 800 C.E. All are in the permanent collection of the Fowler Museum at UCLA.
