Quotative division is division in search of “how many” when pupils divide a certain amount into an amount of constant size (Figure2). It is 3 x ∏ = 12, because it is (the number for one) x (The number of people) = (total number) when pupils assume amount to find ∏. Because pupils will take the same number out of the total amount, like figure 2, as for quotative division, there is a connection with a subtraction such as 12 – 3 – 3 – 3 – 3.
