The oxidation of hydrogen to from water may appear to be a very attractive mech anism ffor oxigen scanvenging. This process has bee used by microbiologists for deoxygenating anaerobic jars for cultivation of anaerobes for many years. The process was proposed for the pacging of mike powder in cans of mike powder with a mixture of hydrogen (7%) in nitrogen. The hydrogen reacts with Oxygen on the surface of palladium- coated steel attached by means of adhesive tape to the inside of the lid. The particular benefit of this process was the removal of oxygen released from pores in the spray-dried powder over several days following closure.
