global warming and the greenhouse effect
1.an increase in the average temperature of the Earth's atmosphere is called global warming
2. Effects of global warming are :
melting of glaciers and ice caps in the Arctic and Antarctic
drying of land, drought and hurricanes
the increase in the Earth's atmospheric temperature is due to an increase in greenhouse gases
greenhouse gases include carbon dioxide, methane, nitrogen oxide, water vapour and chlorofluorocarbons
these gases trap heat in the atmosphere which gives rise to the greenhouse effect
greenhouse effect is important for keeping the Earth's surface warm to sustain life
an increase in the production of greenhouse gases from the combustion of fossil fuels, open burning and deforestation causes more heat to be trapped on Earth
