In Australia, loading occurrences have been the subject of a number of ATSB occurrence investigation
reports and safety deficiency investigations to industry. These investigations relate to the 1990’s and
have dealt with:
• scorch marks (possible fire) on aircraft cargo hold pallets
• cargo restraint and locks
• aircraft weight and balance
• inadequate load summary documentation, computerised load systems
• reductions in the number of loading gang members and cost cutting
• training of loading gang members
• communication between the load offices, loading gang members, and flight crew.
