Fig. 8 shows the variation of the combustion duration with brake power for diesel without and with IJP, 40LFPO, 40LFPO10DMC and 40LFPO10DMC + IJP. It can be observed from the figure that, combustion duration increases with an increase in the load. The reason may be more time taken for the amount of fuel consumed which increases with load. The combustion of the engine depends upon the air fuel mixture, availability of oxygen, etc. Because of diesel’s better fuel mixing characteristics with air, and higher cetane number, the combustion is shorter in the entire load spectrum. This is further shortened by about 1 °CA by offering the turbulence. The combustion duration of 40LFPO is longer than that of diesel because of its sluggish combustion as a result of lower cetane number and poor volatility. However, the combustion duration is shortened little by adding the DMC to 40LFPO.
