National pride data are obtained from the World Values Survey (WVS).3 This survey assesses public sentiment on a broad range of issues. The WVS data were collected in a number of waves during 1995–2005. To measure national pride, the survey asked, “How proud are you to be [American, Italian, Russian, etc.]”?
