have been synthesized through ring-opening polymerizations discussed in
Section 2.3, polyphosphazenes with direct carbon-phosphorus bonds, whether
poly(alkylphosphazenes) or poly(alkyl/arylphosphazenes), have normally been
synthesized by condensation reactions, most of which appear to be chaingrowth
reactions and are discussed in Section 2.2. Novel polymers combining
cluster carboranes with a variety of other constituents are also synthesized
by condensation reactions as are polyphthalocyanines and the relatively new
poly(oxothiazenes). The reductive coupling polysilane polymerizations are also
condensation reactions although probably not step-growth polymerizations; these
are discussed separately in Section 2.4. Other condensation reactions, such as
the condensation of orthophosphate to polyphosphates, should be noted (cf.
Section 2.5).
