As mentioned in Section 1, plasma degradation of pentoxifylline
has not been previously reported. However, Davis
et al. (1984) focused on the oxidative degradation of this
drug by microorganisms, such as fungi, yeasts and bacteria.
The metabolites identified in these cultures revealed
a cleavage of the ketonic side chain to homologous carboxylic
acids [Davis et al., 1984], similar to some of the degradative
processes indicated in Fig. 10.
