A performance analysis was carried out on the
mushroom-like electromagnetic band gap (EBG) structure which
is integrated with a microstrip patch antenna. Various
configurations of the EBG structure embedded and stacked with
the patch antenna were simulated and analysed. Depending on
the EBG and patch configuration, the results indicated
improvement in the gain, directivity, back lobe suppression and
also beamwidth increment when integrated with a patch antenna
operating at a frequency of 5.4Ghz.
