In addition, the percentage of nonwwhite population is negatively correlated with general own-source revenue, sales taxes, income taxes, and user charges, but positively associated with property taxes. As expected, the percentage of population younger than age 18 has a positive effect on general own-source revenue, other taxes, and user charges, reflecting an increasing demand for public education and other services; whereas, the percentage of population age 65 or older than has a negative effect on user charges and miscellaneous revenue but a positive effect on property taxes, reflecting a decreasing demand for local public goods and a higher property tax capacity. Finally, the percentage of owner-occupied housing has a negative effect on sales taxes but a positive influence on property taxes and other taxes.
