Later, other Tantric Buddhist masters also came from India to Tibet.
One was Atisa (982-1054 CE). He was celebrated for having mastered various non-Buddhists in debate, and traveled and spread Tantric Buddhism widely, even to the island of Sumatra in Indonesia.
He is known for having had several students who founded additional lineages. One of these students was Tilopa (988-1069), who was famous for having perfecting a kind of Tantric yoga to attain Buddhahood more quickly. Because of his advanced powers, he was considered a “mahasiddha” (master of high skills).
