The implementation of the regional method at other
in situ calibration sites is planned and it will be a good
opportunity to assess the quality and stability of the
technique in regions with more energetic oceanic conditions
than the North-Western Mediterranean Sea. In addition,
it should be noticed that the Ajaccio site is the only
local point for the absolute calibration of the Envisat mission.
Calibrating the Envisat mission in more dynamical
regions, as it is done for the TOPEX/Jason missions in
Harvest and Bass Strait for example, would consequently
be of great value to improve the confidence interval of
the absolute bias estimate. It would also prepare the calibration
of the upcoming SARAL/AltiKa mission, which
will fly on the nominal tracks of the ERS/Envisat missions,
and the validation of the future Sentinel-3 mission
