Recently, informal learning in Korean colleges and universities has been embodied in the way of reforming curriculums to “competence-based education”. Rather than measure student achievement through traditional exams and standardised test, some universities try to increase opportunities for students to use knowledge more in class and measure student soft skill improvement through a multi-dimensional process of cognitive and practice-based assessment. According to KRIVET’s report (2010), 31 universities participated in the Korea Collegiate Essential Skills Assessment, recently developed by KRIVET which aims to measure the soft skills of college students (e.g. communication skill, analytical skill, self-management skills, interpersonal skills, etc.). It would seem that a more number of universities may have an interest in implementing competence-based education and the soft skills can become core educational contents in higher education.
