Alright, we’ve seen this type of stuff happen before, especially in the tech world (remember the time a Samsung official couldn’t tell the difference between an iPad and a Galaxy Tablet in court?), but the way Skechers blatantly stole the TOMS shoe design has TOMS lovers enraged at how the market lets this type of stuff slide. Not that we’re not for some solid campaigning to help children in need, but... really? Could they not have come up with anything a little more distinguishable than you know, the same exact label and the same exact design? Or even something so far as making the name something other than a pluralized three letter name?
“Skechers will give a free pair of shoes to a child in need when you buy a pair of BOBS. Helping the world” vs. “With every pair you purchase, TOMS will give a pair of new shoes to a child in need. One for one.” Meaning, there is now twice the opportunity to help a child in need, but we really think Skechers needs to up the ante with the creativity here. Maybe they could revert back to the old Spice Girl shoe look from the 90s...
