During the first day’s session,
TcPO2 decreased, respiratory
rhythmicity increased, and there was a
slight decrease in motor activity. TcPO2
remained stable during the second session
and increased slightly during the
third. Respiratory regularity increased
over the three sessions and motor activity
showed a slight, gradual decrease over
the three sessions. Tribotti (1990) suggested
that the infants may have learned
that this tactile stimulation was nonaversive
and actually felt comforting.
